The MA course on Cultural Mediation primarily prepares the applicants for management tasks that are meant to convey cultural knowledge in the broad sense of the word at the Hungarian cultural institutions in an easy-to-understand and memorable way. These may include activities for children, promoting the elements of Hungarian folk culture and history, as well as the cultural heritage of Roma and other national minorities living in Hungary. Providing experiential education to various strata of the society in villages and smaller or larger cities is necessary, in order to train qualified leaders in the fields of conflict management, communication and psychology who are also familiar with Central European reality.

The classical theoretical training, which also prepares students for admission to a Ph.D. program, is complemented by intensive professional practice. The Cultural Mediation program offered by ELTE’s Faculty of Primary and Pre-School Education prepares students for managing public cultural institutions in Hungary. In addition to the balance between theory and practice, a key strength of the program is the social capital students can acquire within the university and during their professional internships in the (inter)cultural scene. The leadership of the Cultural Mediation program is also committed to facilitating students’ international experiences.

Those who have completed the training program may primarily assume senior positions at the institutions supervised by the National Institute of Culture (NMI).
